Building a Love of Reading

OPE READS a 9-week, school-wide reading competition that challenges students to read books outside of the classroom to earn prizes and medals as they achieve their reading minute goals. This year’s slogan is “Reading Rocks!”

OPE READS encourages readers at all levels to set aside time in their busy schedules and discover the joy of reading for pleasure. Kids who read outside of the classroom have larger vocabularies, demonstrate improved spelling skills and develop more competent writing abilities. Last year alone, our OPE students read over 1.1 million minutes!

Reading Hours Tracking Sheet

This is the “Second Year”we have gone online. All students are identified with their student ID numbers. If your child does not know their number by heart, the numbers will also be provided to you from your OPE Reads Room Volunteer.

You will also have a Read Only LINK that will allow you to see the entire class listed with the ID numbers and live tracking of all of the minutes. This way you can look back to make sure your minutes are being input correctly. This was the only way we could allow everyone to see the minutes that they have submitted. We hope that it makes this year even better. We strive to make each year better and better!
